Positive Activities – NDC Program 2008-2009-2010-2011- Targets

  • Raise the profile of young people in a positive way by getting young people involved in at least one targeted community cohesion project aimed at residents who have reported ASB incidents to the police.

  • This will contribute to raising tolerance levels amongst residents towards young people and also break down barriers. This will also ensure that young people make a positive contribution in their community and hopefully culminate in young people being perceived as valued members of their community rather than a ‘problem’ to be dealt with.

  • All young people attending football programs funded by Positive Activities will have access to accredited courses, such as the Junior Sports Leadership Award (JSLA) and Community Sports Leader Awards and targets have been set to make sure young people get the support to access these. Young people will be identified from the partnership sports programmes (see page 6) who may benefit from participating in accredited learning courses which will increase their employability. Courses will be designed in partnership with these geographically targeted groups and delivered through the youth partnership that will be established via this project and will be delivered from Henley College.

  • Clear links will be in place so all young people can be signposted to CSWP Connexions worker within Eburne for extra support to find career pathways so young people can achieve their full potential.

  • Those young people not interested in accessing sport will be offered accredited arts and other activities they show an interest in. This will be leady by the CSWP Connexions worker based at Eburne.

  • Sports activities to be available late evening all year round (50 weeks of the year) and will take place on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings to combat ASB and give young people something positive to do with their time and have available appropriate pathways JSLA and CSLA accreditations.

  • Training will be sought for all front line staff to be able to provide condom distribution to young people in year 2 but we will endeavour to put it in place before this. Positive Activities Manager is currently liaising with CSWP Connexions and Coventry City Council to assess feasibility. These costs will be picked up by the Positive Activities programme.

  • Holiday provision to run from the Venny Youth Centre during the summer, October, February and Easter school holidays.

  • A media project to take place each year run by young people for young people filming a community positive contribution project. This will be edited and will be televised on the new CSWP Connexions E-factor, Central Vision channel. Media machine already working in the NDC area will be utilized to help support young people with this project. Any equipment needed to support the project will be purchased by the Positive Activities program for this to be utilized in the NDC area specifically.

  • All delivers of the programme to meet at youth provision meetings regularly to coordinate programs effectively making sure there are programmes running on different days and times for maximum impact.

  • Weekly reports to continue to be sent to MATTS meetings for detached work sharing information, problems and barriers but also to be sent to all delivers to keep everyone fully informed about the Positive Activities programme.
