The Scheme

Part of the overall regeneration of the NDC area involves the WEHM redevelopment scheme, which will see two thirds of the physical environment transformed with new housing, green spaces and transport links.

The scheme is well known in the local area and eagerly anticipated by the local community.

Here are some of the facts of the scheme –

  • It will take £360million of private-sector investment through the developers
  • It will see 3328 new homes built, of which 1000 will be social housing for Whitefriars
  • It will take 15-20 years to complete fully
  • It is a scheme of two main phases of development (with sub-phases)
  • There will be new and refurbished shopping areas
  • The creation of play areas and communal recreational facilities
  • New roads and transport links will be built
  • There will be a homeowners scheme in place to ensure homeowners are able to remain in the area
  • The Coventry Partners are Coventry NDC, Whitefriars Housing and Coventry City Council
  • The developer consortium BKW are – Bovis Homes, Keepmoat and Westbury Partnerships
  • Coventry NDC has funded the production of the original Masterplan for the area, advanced demolitions and buy-back of specific properties in the area
  • Land from both Whitefriars Housing and Coventry City Council is included in the scheme
  • Whitefriars are investing a further £2million in improvements to its retained stock in the development
