The Employment Theme Objectives are: -

  • To provide local people with the tools they need to access jobs
  • To create effective links to the City economy, in terms of job networks, new businesses and access to both local employers and major employment sites.  More specifically, this work involves:

  • Developing improved integrated provision and support across the area
  • Focusing on the potential to support individuals into jobs and training
  • Taking opportunities to link to other employment related regeneration initiatives
  • Establishing links between local people and local employers
  • Identifying and delivering specific skills needs to local people
  • Promoting new businesses.

  • To work closely with the Education theme and Neighbourhood Services themes to develop an approach and strategy to involve adults in education and training, and to ensure the learning of skills to support the sustainability of the area post NDC funding, and to develop initiatives that promote employment opportunities linked to learning.

The key achievements over the past year have been: -

  • Pertemps People Development Group (PPDG) won the contract for the NDC’s employment flagship The Workshop in October 2007. 
  • NDC Employment initiatives have helped over 90 local people find employment
  • Over 80 residents have obtained an accredited qualification and approximately 40 have obtained non-accredited qualifications
  • Over 40 residents have found voluntary work using projects such as Community Arts, The Workshop,
