  • About Project

Name: Community Safety Equipment

Start date: 2003/04

End date: 2004/05

Project Lead: Karen Buttle-Grewer

Lead Organisation: Coventry NDC

Project description / summary: The project provided a budget in order to finance the purchase of community safety equipment such as personal attack alarms, ultra violet marker pen kits, portable movement detectors, security lighting, and any other community safety equipment available that would improve the lives of NDC residents.
The purpose of the project was to "target harden" premises which had either already been subjected to attack or were  identified as being particularly vulnerable to attack, in order to make them more resistant to crime thereby reducing the number of offences taking place in the area and reducing the fear of crime and consequently improving the quality of life of the resident and is one of a series of planned actions.

The project linked in with other projects such as safety in the home which provided target hardening to actual premises by fitting more robust door locks window locks and security lighting.

The project attempted to include all residents in the area by freely distributing the equipment. Awareness days were also held with residents groups where security was reinforced and equipment distributed.
